Community Involvement

A city isn’t a community without people who care, who contribute, who are bold and put themselves out there to try new things. It’s not a community without volunteerism, passion, and entertainment.

Kamloops is bursting with all of the above and then some and this is my little page to showcase some of my favourite things about Kamloops and how I contribute where I can!

I hope this page inspires you to get involved in your community wherever that may be!

Rotary Club of Sun Peaks

I am a founding member, past treasurer and President of the Rotary Club of Sun Peaks, an organization full of passionate individuals who wanted to bring a collective group of like-minded individuals together to use our time, talent and/or treasure to better the local and international community.

Since founding the group in 2017 we have sent students to Adventures in Health Care (a program designed to target students at a high school level and gear them into a career in health care while they are young enough to adjust their degree), we’ve raised funds for literacy within Kamloops, Sun Peaks Skate Park Foundation, we’ve brought the community together through bringing dinners to the volunteer firefighters, helping our younger group “Interact” run charity dinners raising funds for medical equipment now available for public use. We’ve raised funds for the Sun Peaks Education Society, and we have now set our eyes on building a much-needed community hall in conjunction with the school expansion. This is a powerhouse club that I am proud to be a part of.

Motionball

“Motionball is a not-for-profit organization that builds awareness and raises funds for the Special Olympics Canada Foundation (SOCF), targeting a “next generation” of supporters – Canada’s professional crowd who are not defined by their age but rather their mindset.”

What I absolutely love about this organization is it really focuses on integrating with the athletes and beneficiaries, not often do you get a hands-on experience with the individuals who will be benefiting from your donations and in 2018 I hosted MotionBOWL an all-day bowling fundraiser with 16 Kamloops athletes and multiple donors where we saw more of our capabilities than disabilities.

Commissions For Cancer Care

This was an idea I’ve had for a while and I was so lucky to brainstorm with the wonderful Anthony Salituro who hosts the Pink Ribbon Gala in support of bringing

$1,000,000 to Cancer Care at Royal Inland Hospital. I couldn’t think of a better place to donate my real estate services in the silent auction with proceeds going directly to Kamloops’ local hospital.

Sun Peaks Fire Truck Pull for Muscular Dystrophy Canada

Every year my husband and I participate in this event and we absolutely love it, raising funds for a fantastic national foundation Muscular Dystrophy Canada supports people affected by muscular dystrophy and related muscle diseases.

Together, these rare conditions are referred to as neuromuscular disorders.” We are lucky to have our health and are happy to put our bodies to the test in a race to pull a firetruck as a team.

SantaCrawl & Holiday Donations

Christmas is by far my favourite holiday, growing up we would celebrate Christmas morning with freshly baked cinnamon buns and presents then head to my Aunt and Uncle’s farm where a “small gathering” included 30 people, we’d have not 1 but 2 dinners, early and late separated by card games, sleigh rides, snowman building and general merriness.

I am incredibly lucky and I know that not all Christmas’s look like this, not even in my own community so I make a goal every year to help support at least 1 family in need.

SantaCrawl is an event, my friend hosts where individuals come together for a walking pub crawl, each elf, reindeer and general pub enthusiast pay an entrance fee and those funds are used to sponsor Christmas for multiple families including gifts, food and basic necessities to enjoy after the holiday season is over.

In 2018 some fellow realtors and I also decided to donate a portion of our earnings from our December sales towards sponsoring a family from the Women’s Shelter and the Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Bluebird Day Fund

The charity was started in 2006 in memory of Bryn Taylor who died November 1, 2006. Bryn moved to Sun Peaks several years ago to pursue his passion for snowboarding and was an active and well-known member of the Sun Peaks community.

Every year we get together to celebrate the life of Bryn and the athletes his memory supports.

The purpose of the Sun Peaks Bluebird Society is to provide athletic and recreational programs to support the physical, mental and emotional development of individuals, including those who are economically and/or socially disadvantaged, who exhibit a commitment to the pursuit of their sport.
