Hey Everyone and welcome to Kamloops Home Finder!

As this is my first blog post I thought what better way to kick things off than to discuss the importance of choosing a REALTOR® to partner with and what kinds of things to consider before making your decision!

First and foremost your relationship with your REALTOR® is incredibly important. This can be one of the most stressful times in your life, a good agent should ease your fears, have systems in place to minimize stress and be willing to think outside the box to get you into or out of your home.

Some questions you should reflect on or ask any agent you discuss include:

Do you feel listened to? Can you ask this person any question without hesitation or are you afraid to sound silly? A good agent will foster a caring relationship where you can be open and honest with each other.

Are they full time or part time? Real Estate markets can change quickly, if your agent is part time or if they are not busy enough to keep in touch with the market, you could be losing money and time.

Why are they in the industry? Is it a part time job? A back up career? An agent with passion for their job will always out perform an agent who has one foot in and one foot out of the industry.

What is their availability? You may get along great with your realtor but if you work until 7pm and they turn their phone off at 7:30, you’re likely not going to have enough communication to get through this process together.

Do they have systems in place to help you get through the buying or selling process or are they winging it?

Again a good agent should have a written plan and strategy that makes sense to you and is backed by data.

Do they request loyalty from you? If any agent is too afraid to ask you to work exclusively with them, what makes you think they will ask for and push on hard topics when it comes to negotiating your purchase or sale?

What kind of feedback can you find on them? Do they have client testimonials? Is there any online feedback about them? I cannot stress enough how much easier a good agent can make your life and how much more difficult this process can be with a subpar one.

I hope you found these tips interesting! If you’d like to know more feel free to reach out!
