7 Ways To Get Into The Holiday Spirit

7 Ways To Get Into The Holiday Spirit

By now I’m sure you’ve heard that Christmas is our favourite time of year, but we know that it’s not always an easy time to relax and enjoy the season’s festivities. This is why we’ve compiled a few of our favourite, sure-fire ways to get you humming those Christmas carols while you get ready in the morning. Check out our top 7 tips to get in the holiday spirit below!

  1. Turn on some holiday music. This will get you into the Christmas spirit quickly and easily - who doesn't love a good Christmas song?

  2. Take your Christmas music dedication to the next level and go caroling. Get a group of friends and family together and head out on a weeknight or Sunday when you’ll catch the most people at home and sing your heart out. Just make sure to bring some warm clothes and a thermos full of your favourite holiday drink – alcoholic or non-alcoholic!

  3. Watch your favourite Christmas movie. Our favourites are The Grinch (Jim Carrey version), Love Actually, and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

  4. Have an ugly sweater party. These are great at the office or with friends. Make it a potluck and have a contest for the best “worst” sweater – you’d be surprised how often these turn into traditions! If you need some inspiration for an ugly sweater, Amazon has a great selection available for cheap.

  5. Go ice-skating. This one’s a classic and something that the whole family will enjoy. The City of Kamloops is offering extended public skating from December 27 to January 5, so strap on those skates and get out there! Find times and locations here: https://www.kamloops.ca/parks-recreation/programs-lessons-activities/skating.

  6. Bake holiday treats…you don’t even need to share them. Check out these great recipes at http://www.countryliving.com/food-drinks/g647/holiday-cookies-1208/ or if you’re in the mood for something vegan, take a look at the vegan blog Oh She Glows recipes here: http://ohsheglows.com/.

  7. Last but not least – volunteer for your favourite charitable organization. The holiday season is a great time to think of all that we are thankful for, and to try and spread the cheer around. If you don’t have a local charity that you volunteer at already, check out the Do Some Good website. Sign up is free, you can search for local charities and organizations in Kamloops, and then reach out and determine how you can help. Check it out at https://dosomegood.ca.
